Small Business SEO - Part 4, Local directory listings

| 15th July 2013

Another week and its time for another tip, to help anyone looking to enhance their small business SEO strategy especially with Google Places!

The whole point of being a small local business is that you’re normally looking for local clients.

In the next part we’ll take a look at setting up your Google Places listing properly but another resource I wanted to give you a quick heads up on are local business directories.

There are several good reasons for wanting to be listed in local directories:

  • Every local listing about your company gives the search a big nudge that you’re a local business
  • Local listings pop up in search results so you get another way of appearing in the search results
  • You’ll normally get a link to your domain from the listing and as we know Google still likes the right type of link
  • Google sometimes brings back directory listings in the Google Places results

So there are plenty of good reasons and there are many directories out there that are free, so the only thing holding you back is a handy list to save you doing lots of trawling right?

Well, here you go.

You can download a list of 20 local directories that you can get your business listed on by going here – I hope this helps!
